Hongqiao Golf Club
Hongqiao Golf Club is one of the closest golf clubs in Shanghai, a good drive from restaurants and bars in the middle of Hongqiao. It's a 9-hole course with par 32, but don't let the fact that it's not a full length course deceive you. It does have a bit of water and some narrow fairways so the easy par might just as well become a double bogey. Some of the par-3's quite often play over 200 yards from the men's standard tees as well, making it a good practice round for your long irons or hybrids. The greens are large and featuring two holes each, red and yellow flags, enabling the golfer to play 18 holes where each hole has a unique distance. But to be honest, Hongqiao Golf Club's biggest advantages are that it's central, and with a compact routing you can easily finish 9 holes in less than two hours which including transportation means that you don't have to spend the entire Saturday on the golf course.

The Course
Hongqiao Golf Course is a 9-hole course with par 32. It's a well manicured course that is pretty much always in good condition. Even if it may sound like a short practice course it has a few holes that will bite back. It has five par-3's, ranging from 120 yards and with water in play (the 8 being their signature hole), to more demanding ones that stretch out to around 220 yards from the men's standard tees. There are three par-4's, one of them which might be reached in one with a good 300 yard drive. Well, the third hole could also be reached in one from the men's tee, but would require you hitting a high fade and landing the ball with little roll on a peninsula green with a 295 yard carry...
There is also one par 5, but to be honest it's more like a long par 4 and wouldn't really qualify as a par 5 according to USGA's guidelines for yardage distances.
Each hole features a double green and two flags to vary the distances for the golfer who wants to play two rounds. Overall Hongqiao Golf Course is a simple but nice experience, easy to get to and quick to get around. Despite the raised the prices recently (2013) it might still be worth playing, but remember to book one day ahead or check the promotion days below for a better deal.
