The Course
The golf course at Sanyang Golf & Country Club was built already back in 1995, which is quite early for China. It has a bit of a stadium feel to it on some holes, TPC Sawgrass comes to mind, with small strips of land laid out on a lake. This is target golf with lots of water. On other holes the character changes and you're playing through the woods. The course is scenic with beautiful stone bridges connecting fairways.
It's not particularly long with today's standards and will definately premiere the straight hitter, but there are also a few driveable par-4's around 300 yards for the golfer with tour power in his driver.
Being an "old" golf club in China however has it's downsides, maintenance is never very high on the priority list. Last time we played the fairways were let up to the length of semi-rough (see photos). When pointing it out to the reception desk after the round they apologized in the expected manner, but wouldn't offer to do anything about it. We asked them to call the manager and after a 10-minute discussion we were offered a discount of 50 RMB. Sanyang Golf & Country Club is an interesting course with a few very beautiful holes, but make sure to call ahead to verify whether the greenkeeper and management are on duty or not.
