Shanghai Sun Island International Club

The Shanghai Sun Island International Club is located on an island in the middle of the Huangpu River, about an hour from downtown Shanghai. It is a larger wellness resort complex offering a spa, events, meeting spaces and two 18 hole golf courses. The Old Course and New Course are considered "target" courses and are relatively flat and forgiving. The club has hosted both the Volvo China Masters and the HSBC Junior Golf Championship.

Previously called Mao Island, Sun Island houses the impressive Mao Pagoda. One of the few remaining ancient lighthouses in China, it was built some 1200 years ago and dates back to the Tang Dynasty.

Old Course

Both the "Old Course" and the "New Course" at Shanghai Sun Island International Club premiere target golf. They are relatively flat, well manicured and not particularly long. What makes it difficult is an abundance of water and quite a few well-placed bunkers. If you're a short- or straight hitter, a sunny day here could be a breeze. But a windy, rainy day for the longer hitter who misses fairway will easily find water and make it anything but easy to come back to the club house with a good score.
